A servo from Waveshare that can be controlled via serial bus. This servo is ideal for robotics projects as it provides all kinds of feedback such as position*, load, speed and input voltage. In addition, it is also possible to put the servo in "torque lock", which causes the servo to energise itself to ensure it maintains its position. This servo is therefore handy to use in combination with the Waveshare General Driver for Robots.
Because Waveshare uses a serial bus, it is theoretically possible to control 253 servos simultaneously. The servo contains a connector on both sides, making it very easy to connect several servos in "series".
This servo can be used both continuously (motor mode) and with 360° rotation range (servo mode). This does mean that the servo has no mechanical limit, even when used in servo mode.
This ST3020 servo is an upgrade over Waveshare's SC15 servo. Besides being more powerful, this servo also has 2 other features. Namely, this servo has a magnetic encoder that enables the 360° rotation range, and an acceleration start and stop function for enabling smooth start and stop movements.
See next page for additional specifications and programming examples: Waveshare ST3020 Servo. For the corresponding library, click here: Waveshare SCServo Library (The SCServo library can also be used for the ST models).
*If the servo is in motor mode, it is only possible to obtain the position relative to the starting point. This means that when the servo is switched off it forgets what position it was at.
