BLDC Motor Driver 9-36V - 5A

A versatile driver for a brushless DC (BLDC) motor with built-in hall-effect sensors. The driver offers various control methods including via a potentiometer (10kΩ-50kΩ), a microcontroller with PWM and RS485. Many settings (including maximum current, speed, PID settings, etc.) can be adjusted via RS485 and the configuration program for Windows (can be found under the tab "Downloads"). If you do not use this, the driver is set to the maximum settings for speed and current by default.

Functions of the DIP-switches:

• 1-3: motor rated current configuration
• 4-5: signal source selection
• 6-7: working mode configuration
• 8: configuration control mode, digital and analog signal

To quickly start with the configuration program (and to test the motor), the following steps can be followed:

1. Make sure the motor driver is in RS485 control/configuration mode by setting DIP-switch 8 to "ON".
2. Connect a USB to RS485 converter (not included) to the RS485 terminals of the motor driver and insert the USB into the computer.
3. Go to the device manager on the computer and check under Ports (COM & LPT) on which COM port the RS485 converter registers. If the COM port is higher than 15, perform the following intermediate steps:
   1. Right-click on the RS485 converter and then select Properties>Port Settings>Advanced.
   2. Change the COM port number to a number between 1 and 15 and click OK.
4. Open the configuration program, select the correct COM port (the other settings are correct by default) and click Open.
5. Check the Auto Refresh box at the bottom right of the configuration program. If everything goes well, status parameters will appear above it. If "Timeout" appears, check the connections, COM port and whether the motor driver is in RS485 setting.

Follow the instructions below to test the motor via the configuration program:

1. Ensure that communication with the driver works using the above steps.
2. Go to the Motor Parameter tab and click Read.
3. At least change the maximum current settings that the motor can handle under the fields Motor Rated Current, Motor Load Current and Braking Current.
4. The rest of the settings can remain the same for testing. Then click Configure to save the settings. A message will appear that the configuration was successful.
5. Go to the Motor Control tab and set the Output PWM slider to 100%.
6. Click Operate and the motor will start running.
7. Click Stop to stop the motor. To change settings, the motor must also be stopped.

Follow the instructions below to test the motor via the potentiometer:

1. Make sure the potentiometer and motor are correctly connected to the driver.
2. Before connecting the power supply, make sure the DIP-switches 4 and 5 are set to “ON” (built-in programs).
3. As soon as you connect the power supply, the green and red LED will flash alternately. At the same time, turn the motor's shaft three times.
4. The learning phase of the built-in program ends with a beep sound for about 2 seconds.
5. Then set the DIP-switches 4 and 5 back to “OFF.”
