A DIY kit to attach fans to a radiator to make your own radiator fan. With the set you can connect 4 fans together and with extra kits this can be expanded. The set is designed to be compatible with almost all standard (computer) fans so you are free to choose the size of the fans.

The fans are easy to connect via screw terminals (two fans per screw terminal). The kit has Grove connectors to easily connect multiple kits together and connect them to a microcontroller. All fans can be switched on and off via one pin on the Grove connector via the built-in MOSFET.

Note: This kit only contains the mounting pieces as shown in the first two photos. To complete the kit you need the following parts:

4x Magnet for mounting

Here you can choose between magnets with mounting holes for flush mounting with the fans or magnetic spacers for wider mounting (13~20mm wider than the fans, may vary slightly per fan type).

Neodymium Magnet 8x3mm

Neodymium Magnet 16x8x3mm (for extra strength compared to the 8x3mm magnet, only recommended for fans with a height of more than 20mm)

M3 Magnetic Spacer

1x Microcontroller

Many options possible, the Radiator Fan USB-PD controller is the best and easiest solution with which the speed of the fans can also be controlled.

Alternatively, M5Stack products are handy because they usually have a Grove connector. These can be used with 5V and 12V fans. In this case, 12V fans are supplied with 5V, which results in lower air displacement. Use 5V fans for higher air displacement (but more noise). Please note that a Grove port of an M5Stack product can usually only supply power to 1 set of 4 fans.

1x Tools

You will probably need PZ1, PH2 and 2mm flat head screwdrivers for the fan screws, magnet screws, and screw terminals. You will also need wire strippers and cutting pliers to cut the fan wires to the correct length.

Tools

Instructions:

  1. Break all the parts of the kit apart. Use pliers for this if you can't do it by hand. The two outer pieces are not used.
  2. Cut the wires of the fans to the desired length and strip the ends. If desired, the ends can be tinned if you have a soldering iron, this makes the next step easier.
  3. Put the wires of two fans in one screw terminal and tighten it with a screwdriver.
  4. Assemble the kit by connecting the fans via the mounting pieces and fan screws. See the images for an example of how it should look.
  5. At the end, you should have 8 usable pieces left. The 4 elongated pieces can be used to vary the mounting height, but usually they are not necessary. The other 4 pieces (2 short and 2 long) can be used to connect multiple kits. If there is space, the long pieces can also be used to create more stability above the pieces with the screw terminals.
