The NanoPower Dev S2 is an ultra-efficient off-grid development board designed by SDR Engineering.
The NanoPower is based on an ESP32-S2, but with a number of unique features. Everything on this module is focused on a low idle current (120uA). This makes it easy to create an off-grid IoT module, with a very long standby time: a 2Ah cell is enough for many months of operation, with a WiFi poll every 5 minutes. The PV connection with integrated battery charger allows the module to run permanently off-grid (even in winter) if a small PV panel (5-12V) is connected.
Despite the ultra-efficient operation, there is a switchable powerful boost converter present which provides 5V/2A for controlling servos or other heavy loads, for example. This is done via 2 switchable power outputs, so that you can also switch these consumers on individually, or switch them off if they are not needed. The boost converter consumes less than 0.5uA when switched off.
Note: Do not connect a battery and power supply via USB-C at the same time!
Note: Check the battery charging voltage and adjust it with the potentiometer if necessary before connecting a battery. Do this as follows:
- Power the module via the PV input with 6-12V DC
- Measure the voltage on the BATT pins
- Turn the potentiometer until the desired charging voltage is reached
- Finally, connect the battery
