This Pro Micro 5V is based on the open source design of the Arduino Micro and is a copy of the SparkFun Pro Micro 5V, making it both hardware and software compatible with the Arduino ecosystem. The Pro Micro 5V is a very compact board, with an ATmega32U4 microcontroller. For example, you can use it as a USB input device (e.g. keyboard and mouse), partly due to its dimensions, the Pro Micro is ideal for this.
If the board registers on the computer as a "Pro Micro" then you still need to download the Board Definitions from Sparkfun for the Arduino IDE: Github sparkfun/Arduino_Boards
You can then select the corresponding type in the Arduino IDE.
Note: The voltage regulator on these Pro Micro compatible boards can only handle a voltage up to 9V DC on the Vin/RAW pin, while the original boards can handle up to 12V. A voltage above 9V DC will cause the voltage regulator to overheat or malfunction.
Note: This Pro Micro might appear as an Arduino Leonardo using a computer, if so select the Arduino Leonardo in the Arduino IDE.
