With this module it is very easy to convert all pins of an LCD screen of 16*2 or 20*4 characters into a compact I2C connection.

Equipped with a header and jumper for On/Off, a potentiometer for contrast and the option to set the I2C address. (with A0, A1 and A2)

Specifications:

  • Voltage: 5V DC
  • Default I2C address: 0x27 (PCF8574 (T)) or 0x3F (PCF8574A (T)) (delivery of chip type is random!)

See the pictures for the assembly, this is compatible with almost all 16*2 and 20*4 character LCD screens.

How do you get this module working:

  1. Install the "hd44780" library via the Arduino IDE or this github page: duinoWitchery/hd44780
  2. Connect your Arduino with the Module on the 5V/VCC, GND, SDA and SCL pins.
  3. Open the following example from the installed hd44780 library: ioClass -> hd44780_I2Cexp -> HelloWorld
  4. Change LCD_COLS to 20 and LCD_ROWS to 4 if you have a 20x4 character display.
  5. Upload it to your Arduino and you're done!

You don't see any text appearing? Then it is possible that the contrast is not set correctly. Turn the potentiometer for a correct contrast setting for your display.
