This 2.1 TPA3116 amplifier can supply up to 50W with two channels and a channel up to 100W. The format is still relatively compact and is ideal for crate and crate radio devices that also have an extra subwoofer speaker.
Specifications:

  • Works between 12V and 25V DC 
  • Very new and advanced chip from Texas Instruments
  • Very energy efficient
  • Numerous protections that give it an extra high "hobby factor". (does not break easily)
  • Cooling blocks for optimum cooling
  • Works with impedances between 4 and 8 ohms for the stereo speakers and 3 to 4 ohms for the subwoofer speaker
  • Potentiometer present (for volume control) with on/off switch built in
  • Potentiometer available for bass (frequency and volume), treble control and volume for left and right audio output
  • Switch to toggle left(Lout) and right channel(Rout) between NORMAL(less bass) or ALL FREQ(all frequencies)
  • 3.5mm female jack (audio input)
  • Reverse polarity protection with a diode (can be bypassed in connection with energy consumption)
  • LED indicating the status of the amplifier (on/off)
  • 2x 50W + 1x 100W @ 24V 9A (2x 4 Ohm + 1x 3 Ohm)
  • Many modifications possible on the PCB itself. (see below)
  • Dimensions: 101mm x 100mm x 25mm

Note: At low voltages the LED will be less bright.

But, it does not stop here. The printed circuit board is made in such a way that numerous modifications are possible. The only thing you have to do is to connect or disconnect surfaces that are close together. For this you only need soldering and soldering equipment. This is possible:

  • Circumvent diode: The pins of the diode can be connected to each other at the bottom of the PCB. This makes the amplifier more efficient, but loses its reversal protection.
  • Potty measure bypass: Connect V1 and V2.

Additional modifications (replace components):

  • Replace SMD coils with through-hole coils (can provide better audio quality). Only do this if you know what you are doing.

Note: If you want to perform a modification, disconnect the amplifier from speakers, power supply, audio input etc. This will prevent damage.
